General
These web pages are produced by the Guardianship in Child Protection project (2005–2009). The purpose of these pages is to provide easy access to information and materials regarding guardianship in child protection cases and thus further the aim of providing appropriate guardianship when necessary.
On guardianship in chid protection cases
Appointing a Children’s Guardian in a child protection case became possible by virtue of the Act on the Status and Rights of Social Welfare Clients (2001). With the new child protection legislation, the position of guardianship in child protection cases will be further strengthened. You can find more information on guardianship in child protection under ‘Guardianship in Child Protection’, while the relevant sections of law and the background material are available under ‘Sections of Law’. The material gathered and produced by the Guardianship in Child Protection project is available under ‘Materials’ (in Finnish only).
Search engine for social services and Register Offices
The use of guardians in child protection cases [Children’s Guardian] has so far been limited by the shortage of guardians available. These web pages also include a 'Find a guardian' search engine, an easy-to-use service for social services and Register Offices to help them to find child protection guardians within their region. The database is continually updated, so it is advisable to perform the search anew each time a guardian is required.
For Children’s Guardians
These pages also have a section for those serving as Children’s Guardians, ‘For guardians’, to which they can log on with their own username. This section provides support material and discussions on the topic (in Finnish only).
